This portrait of Miryam is painted by the New Zealand artist Charles Olsen on an old wooden slatted blind. The title comes from the gypsy word for 'the eyes'. The painting has been included in exhibitions in Madrid, Spain (Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente (CEART) and StudioStand, 2009) and in Oporto, Portugal (Galería Geraldes de Silva, 2009).

"La Súndari"

Painting "La Súndari" – portrait of flamenco dancer Miryam La Lucha – by New Zealand artist Charles Olsen which was displayed in the Saatchi Gallery, London.
Painted on old wooden window-shutters it reflects both the history and modernization of the city and the tradition of flamenco.
Charles has painted a number of portraits and photographed of a number flamenco dancers including Concha Jareño, Marco Flores, Karen Rubio Lugo, and his first short film "La danza de los pinceles" (The dance of the brushes) was awarded second prize in the Flamenco Short Film Festival, Madrid. .
